Why I am Running for Mayor

When you keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect different results, this is one definition of insanity. Repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results. This is what can occur when you become stagnant. We need new representation on the town council.

To promote a successful revitalization of our community, we need fresh eyes and a voice. We need a vision for the future while preserving the past.

To begin, community assets must be inventoried and made transparent to the general public. Plans need to be shaped around existing assets and through the use of education and incentives.

A community spirit needs to be fostered and cooperation with neighbors for mutual benefit is imperative. Success depends on strong leaders and committed citizens, and a good communication process between the two.

Many communities have found ways to retain their small town values along with its historical character, scenic beauty and general sense of community. This can be done by picking and choosing among development projects yet sustaining a prosperous community.

In my plans for our community, I wish to maintain an open line of communication between myself and the citizens of the town. I feel that our town council members need to be seen in their wards and in their community and be available for questions and concerns.

Having department heads involved in the process of cleanup of the town is imperative. This would involve the council member and the department head to assess in the town the areas that need the most improvement or clean up. A working schedule could be decided upon. This would include infrastructure such as sidewalks and roads.

Every successful community has its own strengths and weaknesses and these need to be evaluated and addressed. Successful committees, and I emphasize ‘Successful’, need to involve a broad cross-section of residents in determining and planning for the future development of the town.

By capitalizing on the distinctive assets of our town we can maintain the historical architecture, history, natural surroundings and home grown businesses that make Honea path The little town with a big heart. Rather than try to adopt a new and different identity we go back to our roots and develop from there.

Improving the downtown area to its original charm will begin a series of events to draw business to our town and tourists. This does not provide for jobs but does provide taxable income being brought into our town. Many other small communities have revitalized by the display of creative art, murals and local themes.

Many people in town have come to me to discuss making this more family oriented. A walking trail for families to exercise on together and in a safe environment will be a positive outlet for families. Many families have to go out of town to participate in events that are family friendly.

A small community garden, supported by donations and volunteers would also promote community spirit. This would start out small and grow as we grow as a community with close attention being paid to our community aesthetics. We need to start small and set realistic goals.

The mill village cleanup is going to be a long term project. It is set to begin around mid 2025 and will take much work, money and planning phases. The site needs to be used in a way that will benefit the whole town not just a select few.

I maintain that having a representative that is vocal on the issues of the town on the council will promote and inspire new development ideas and address the concerns of the citizens. I have stated before, the town is not just the buildings but the people that live and grow their families here. Let’s make this the best place to raise our families. If elected, I will be your voice and help to make our community a thriving community for families to be proud to live in and participate in the growth.

Please stay tuned and come back often as there is more to come....
